KENSINGTON LOFT – SW5

Full refurbishment, external terrace and full width skylight to create a luxury two bedroom duplex at the top of a Georgian terrace in the Courtfield Conservation Area.

The homeowner wanted a complete upgrade of the existing property to suit a young couple, including opening the top floor into one living and entertaining space, rearranging the bathrooms and using any leftover space more efficiently.

The lower floor was reconfigured to provide a new shower room and en-suite bathroom, and hallway cupboards were reoriented to provide a walk-in wardrobe for the master bedroom.  An existing study on the top floor was removed to create one large living area split by a full width skylight.  The skylight provides light to the centre of the floor plate and down the staircase directly below to illuminate the previously dark lower level landing.  It also subtly defines the open plan top floor between kitchen and dining area on one side, and lounge space on the other.
